Who is Khalid from Khalid Marokko Reizen?
My name is Khalid Boutahir and I was born in Khénifra, a small town in the Middle Atlas. I studied biology at the university of Meknes. Because I love sharing my great passion for nature with others, I went on to train as a guide. I have lived in the Netherlands since 2005.
For my travel agency, I spend a few months a year in Morocco. Besides maintaining my extensive network and accompanying trips during that time, I keep searching for the most beautiful locations and accommodations.
What is my motivation?
I would love to introduce you to my Morocco. I want to let you taste the country, both literally and figuratively. I can take you to the tastiest restaurants and organise a cooking workshop on request. But I also want to show you the beautiful landscapes and instil respect for nature. During the trips, I regularly call on local people so that they too benefit from tourism. We often join residents for tea, and in the evenings we make music with guides and residents. Because I speak the local Berber language, this regularly turns into a lively party. This is how I want you to experience how beautiful and hospitable Morocco is.
Why visit the Middle Atlas?
The Middle Atlas is considered ‘Morocco's best-kept secret’. This water-rich region, with its many springs, streams and lakes, is especially known for its impressive cedar forests. In the fertile valleys, farmers grow their crops on small plots, while on the higher plains shepherds tend their sheep. And where tourism is steadily growing elsewhere in Morocco, tourists here are a rarity.
I would love to show you and let you experience the special character of my home region. Through my contacts with the local Berber population, I have permission to travel through this area. For the transport of luggage, tents and food by donkey, I rely on local staff. In the evenings, by the campfire, these Berber men create an atmospheric ambiance with their tambourines, which they themselves visibly enjoy as well.
