The United States, the country where road-tripping was invented!
As a 13-year-old, in 1978 I set foot on American soil for the first time. My father had lived and worked in the US in the sixties and thought it was high time we also got acquainted with that fantastic country.
We arrived in New York, which I immediately recognised from the steam rising from the streets that you always see in films. What an experience, those tall skyscrapers, whizzing up at lightning speed in the lift in the Empire State Building and a swimming pool on top of the hotel roof! On that holiday we went criss-crossing through the US, by car, camper and plane. We saw and did so much, I'm still grateful to my parents! My addiction had begun. I made many road trips, and of course my children had to see it all too. (the hotel with the pool on the roof still existed 30 years later!) and I still think it's a wonderful holiday country.
