It's already been quite a few years since I first became acquainted with Asia and Indonesia in particular. On this trip I made a special tour through Indonesia. A trip that tasted of more right from the first day. The culture, landscapes and hospitable population made me feel at home quickly.
This tour through Indonesia showed me the most special places on Java. Such as the Bromo Volcano, Prambanan, Borobudur and the Dieng Plateau. All impressive places that are absolutely photo-worthy. Java is perhaps not the easiest part to travel through but it is enormously diverse. Sumatra has even more unexplored places, and the combination trip for a first introduction to Bali is certainly recommended.
Bali and the Gili Islands in combination with Nusa Lembongan are also really bizarre. Don't just stay in Kuta and its surroundings, but also discover the lesser-known places here. Are you a diver or snorkeller? Then you'll be very well catered for here. Do you want something completely different? Then go to Flores: the Komodo, the monitor lizard that lives here, is a deadly mega-lizard 3 metres long and 100 kilos heavy. The prehistoric animal has survived 100 million years of evolution and dates back to the time of the dinosaurs. The Komodo monitor lizard is only found on Flores, specifically on the small islands of Komodo and Rinca.

Although the Toraja are officially converted to Christianity, they have an animistic culture with ancestor worship. That is why they give their deceased family members an extensive and costly funeral ceremony. Many water buffaloes and pigs are slaughtered to feed all the guests (hundreds or thousands). If you don't come across a ceremony or the weekly buffalo market, there is still enough special to see in the villages, such as: hanging graves, Tau Tau dolls in the rock graves, a baby tree and traditional houses decorated with buffalo horns. It is also a beautiful area for a trek through the villages in the mountains. Here you'll also find a beautiful underwater world at Bunaken with sharks and giant turtles. But don't forget the limestone rocks that rise above the rice paddy landscape. These are a surprise for many travellers. In the Bantimurung nature reserve, naturalist Alfred Wallace conducted research. It has recently been discovered that the prehistoric cave paintings in this area, at 40,000 years old, are the oldest in the world!
Are you going to Indonesia for the 2nd or 3rd time? Perhaps a visit to the Moluccas would be suitable then. These consist of several groups of islands, each with its own culture. The Alifuru live on Seram; traditionally these men with red headscarves were headhunters! You can snorkel well at many of the islands. On the Banda Islands, the 'spice islands', you can find VOC (Dutch East India Company) forts.
Indonesia has so much beauty to offer. Nature, culture and beaches can be perfectly combined in a tailor-made tour. Enjoy the people, the food and the beautiful locations.
