Health and wellbeing holidays
From wellbeing retreats to your health

From my passion, I started my websites about wellness and later wine years ago. For me, wellness is a healthy lifestyle with (mental) relaxation, exercise and healthy yet delicious food.
Wellness is also known as complementary medicine. Natural raw materials such as thermal water, sea algae and mud are used for prevention and to relieve or cure ailments. Therapies that have often been applied for many centuries have proven their effectiveness. Since 2011, there has been the website WellnessEvidence, which classifies scientific research on treatments offered in wellness centres.
My first introduction to wellness abroad was in Germany, the wellness and spa country par excellence. The destinations I visited were in wine regions, and what immediately stands out when you read about the history of wine and viticulture is that it is virtually identical to that of taking the cure, or the current term wellness. Wine & wellness can also be perfectly combined during a trip or a vinotherapy treatment.
With my background and experience in the travel world and organising events, I decided to organise trips as well as write about wellness and wine. Since the end of 2017, I have been affiliated with United Travel through Leisure & Wellness Travel Services. This means I can advise you on your next wellness and wine trip with a solid back office and all the guarantees such as SGR (the Dutch Guarantee Fund for Package Travel) and ANVR (the Dutch Association of Travel Agents and Tour Operators)!

Wellness, more than just relaxation
Wellness is more than just relaxation. Wellness encompasses all the ingredients for a healthy lifestyle: exercise, nutrition and relaxation. More and more wellness centres and wellness hotels therefore offer not only relaxation but also sporting activities. In addition, extra attention is paid to nutrition; in the kitchen through the use of local products, but also by offering cooking workshops or talks.
Wellness for your health
SPA, sanus per aquam, means health through water. The use of water in the treatment of ailments (hydrotherapy) was already used by Hippocrates, the 'father' of Western medicine. Later, others such as Sebastian Kneipp followed, and natural sources such as mud, clay, algae and salt were also applied in the treatment of often chronic ailments and for prevention.
Wellness is not a replacement for conventional medicine but is seen more as complementary to relieving ailments. Scientific research has been done into a number of wellness treatments and therapies. You will find this in the description of the relevant treatment/therapy.
Wellness has everything to do with a healthy lifestyle, and as more and more research shows, your lifestyle has a direct link with your health. That is why one can also speak of preventive wellness.
At the bottom of my website WellnesSelect.nl, you will find an overview of the treatments, therapies and ailments for which wellness can be applied.
Wellness, pure relaxation
Wellness is above all also relaxation. Tension and stress can be the cause of many ailments, and that is why relaxing regularly is important.
