Luxembourg, officially the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg (Luxembourgish: Groussherzogtum Lëtzebuerg; French: Grand-Duché de Luxembourg; German: Großherzogtum Luxemburg), is a country in western Europe bordering Belgium, Germany and France. With a surface area of 2,586 km² and just over half a million inhabitants, the Grand Duchy is the smallest country in the European Union after Malta. The capital and largest city of the country is Luxembourg, of the same name. Luxembourg is a parliamentary democracy with a Grand Duke as constitutional monarch.
