About this destination

The Republic of Moldova (Romanian: Republica Moldova) is a republic in Eastern Europe, largely situated between the rivers Prut and Dniester (Nistru). The country is bordered in the west by Romania and in the north, east and south by Ukraine. It lies, as it were, wedged between these two. The capital is Chisinau (Romanian: Chișinău; Russian: Кишинёв, Kishinev). The country is regarded as one of the poorest countries in Europe. Moldova belonged to the Soviet Union until 1991. As a result of the dissolution of the Soviet Union, the services sector has grown to dominate Moldova's economy and now accounts for more than 60% of the country's GDP.
