It also borders the Black Sea to the south and the Sea of Azov to the southeast. The country has around 44.3 million inhabitants. In terms of land area, Ukraine is the largest country in Europe after Russia. It is the largest country that lies entirely within Europe. It is a post-Soviet state. The capital is Kiev (Kyjiv).
