Austria (German: Österreich), officially the Republic of Austria (German: Republik Österreich), is a landlocked country in Central Europe. The country borders Switzerland and Liechtenstein to the west, Germany and Czechia to the north, Slovakia and Hungary to the east, and Italy and Slovenia to the south. Austria lies in the Alps and has an area of 83,871 km², of which only 32% lies below 500 metres. The capital is Vienna, which is also by far the largest city in the country. Most inhabitants speak German, which is also the official language.
