About this destination

The Republic of Panama (Spanish: República de Panamá) is a country in Central America that borders Costa Rica and Colombia. Panama is best known for the Panama Canal, which enables passage between the Atlantic Ocean and the Pacific Ocean. In Spanish, the name Panama is pronounced with the stress on the last syllable. In Dutch, the stress is usually placed on the first syllable. Rivers The country has around 500 rivers, of which some 300 flow into the Pacific Ocean. Only a few rivers are navigable, such as the Chagres, which has largely been absorbed into the Panama Canal, and the Tuira. The latter flows through the most easterly province, Darién.
