Romania (pronunciation (info/explanation)) is a republic in South-East Europe bordering the Black Sea, Bulgaria, Serbia, Ukraine, Hungary and Moldova. Except for the latter two, Romance-speaking Romania is surrounded by Slavic countries. The country has many cultures, languages and religions that have influenced one another. The continental climate (cold winters and warm summers) and the Carpathian mountain range create diverse landscapes with unspoilt nature, primeval forests and plains. On the Black Sea coast there are broad sandy beaches and a river delta. Over a territory of 238,391 km², Romania has 21,529,967 (2017) inhabitants.
