About this destination

Saint Helena is one of the most remote inhabited islands in the world, in the middle of the South Atlantic Ocean, and a British overseas territory. Napoleon spent his exile here and died at Longwood House, which you can visit. The capital, Jamestown, lies in a narrow valley, with Jacob's Ladder, a staircase of almost seven hundred steps. Plants and animals live here that are found nowhere else, and from December to March whale sharks swim off the coast. The island has an airport with connections from southern Africa.

Best time to visit

All year; December–March for whale sharks
