More than fifteen years after the split of Czechoslovakia into Slovakia and Czechia, some problems remain regarding the naming of Czechia. In Czech, the long form of the name (Česká republika, Czech Republic) remains in wide use, despite attempts by authorities, geographers and linguists to persuade people to use the short form Česko. In the Dutch-speaking world, a short name is used (Tsjechië), but in many other languages the long form remains common. The Dutch name "Tsjechië" is in fact a kind of Germanism.
