About this destination
Western Sahara lies on the Atlantic coast of north-west Africa, between Morocco and Mauritania. Its status has been disputed for decades: Morocco administers most of it, while the Polisario Front seeks independence. The landscape is desert right down to the sea. Travellers come mainly to Dakhla, a peninsula with a lagoon popular with kitesurfers for its almost constant wind. Check the current travel advice before you go.
