South Sudan (officially the Republic of South Sudan) is a country in East Africa, consisting of ten states. It borders Sudan in the north, Ethiopia in the east, Kenya, Uganda and Congo-Kinshasa in the south and the Central African Republic in the west. The country has been independent since 9 July 2011.
