Palau or Belau (Palauan: Belau), in full the Republic of Palau (Beluu ęr a Belau) is a country in Oceania, associated with the United States. The state lies in the Pacific Ocean and forms part of the Micronesia region. Palau covers the far western part of the Caroline Islands island group; the central and eastern part of this group is occupied by the country of Micronesia. The country has 21,000 inhabitants spread across 340 islands in the west of the Caroline Islands island group.
