Brazil, officially the Federative Republic of Brazil (Portuguese: República Federativa do Brasil; IPA: [bɾaˈziw]), is a country in South America bordering France (French Guiana), Suriname, Guyana, Venezuela, Colombia, Peru, Bolivia, Paraguay, Argentina, Uruguay and the Atlantic Ocean. Brasília is the capital, São Paulo is the largest city in the country. With its 8.5 million square kilometres, Brazil is the largest country in South America, covering almost half of this continent. It is also the fifth largest country in the world, only Russia, Canada, the United States and China are larger.
