Chile (Spanish: Chile), officially the Republic of Chile (Spanish: República de Chile), is a country in South America bordered by Peru, Bolivia and Argentina. It lies wedged between the Pacific Ocean and the Andes. The capital is Santiago, the parliament sits in Valparaíso. The country also lays claim to a stretch of Antarctica (this same stretch is also largely claimed by Argentina). For this reason, the obelisk marking the official geographical centre of Chile is located in the south, near the city of Punta Arenas, close to Tierra del Fuego.
