About this destination
Dominica (not to be confused with the Dominican Republic), officially: Commonwealth of Dominica, is an independent island state in the Caribbean Sea. It lies south of Guadeloupe and north of Martinique and belongs to the Windward Islands of the Lesser Antilles. History Dominica was discovered on 3 November 1493 by Christopher Columbus, during his second voyage to what he thought was India. The name comes from the day on which the island was discovered; a Sunday, in Latin dies dominica.
