Haiti, officially the Republic of Haiti (French: République d'Haïti, Kreyòl: Repiblik Ayiti), is a republic on the western part of the island of Hispaniola in the Caribbean Sea. The country also includes a number of smaller islands, of which Île de la Gonâve, Île de la Tortue and Île à Vache are the largest. Haiti lies east of Cuba and borders the Dominican Republic in the east over 275 kilometres. The country has an area of 27,750 km² and a population of 10,646,714 (2017). The capital is Port-au-Prince.
