About this destination

Saint Lucia is an independent island nation in the Caribbean. The island, which has a land area of 606 km² and 164,994 (2017) inhabitants, belongs to the Windward Islands and lies north of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines and south of Martinique. Originally the island was inhabited by the Arawaks and later by the Caribs, who resisted the European colonists for years. The colonial era was marked by the import of slaves from Africa to work on the banana and sugar plantations.
