About this destination

Saint Martin (French: Saint-Martin, English: Saint Martin) is an island in the Caribbean Sea, named after Saint Martin (Martin of Tours). The island belongs to the Lesser Antilles. It lies 240 kilometres east of Puerto Rico and south of Anguilla. Saint Martin is divided into a French and a Dutch part, the Collectivité de Saint-Martin and the country of Sint Maarten respectively, which have French and Dutch and English respectively as official languages. However, the language spoken on the island is, as on Sint Eustatius, English, because the population is largely descended from English-speaking slaves. The total surface area of the island is 87 km².
