Azerbaijan (Azerbaijani: Azərbaycan), officially the Republic of Azerbaijan (Azərbaycan Respublikası), is the largest and most densely populated country in the Caucasus. Azerbaijan lies on the border of Eastern Europe and Western Asia. The country borders the Caspian Sea in the east, Iran in the south, Armenia in the west, Georgia in the northwest and Russia in the north. The Azerbaijani exclave of Nakhchivan borders Iran in the south and southwest, Turkey in the west and Armenia in the northeast. Dozens of islands in the Caspian Sea also belong to Azerbaijan territorially.
