About this destination

Christmas Island is an Australian island in the Indian Ocean, south of Java. Most of it is national park, with rainforest, cliffs and coral reefs just off the coast. It is known for the annual migration of tens of millions of red land crabs to the sea, which starts with the first rains of the wet season. The island is also popular with birdwatchers, divers and snorkellers. You fly there via Perth.

Best time to visit

October–January for the crab migration (depends on the rains)
