About this destination

The length of the land borders is 2,010 kilometres (590 km with Colombia, 1,420 km with Peru). The coastline measures 2,237 kilometres. The Chimborazo in the Andes is a 6,310-metre-high (dormant) volcano and is the highest point in the country. The country has a total surface area of 283,560 km². Of this, 257,217 km² consists of land and 24,953 km² of water. The country is divided into four zones: the coast (Costa), the Andes (Sierra), the Amazon basin (Oriente) and the Galápagos Islands. The coast consists of fertile soil that is used for agriculture. The area lies just a few metres above sea level and consequently the temperatures there are high (up to 40 °C).
