French Guiana

French Guiana (French: Guyane) is a French overseas department on the north coast of South America. It is the largest area of the European Union outside Europe. It borders Suriname to the west and is otherwise enclosed by Brazil. Between the Litani and Marowini rivers lies an area that is disputed by French Guiana and Suriname. The capital of French Guiana is Cayenne. Near Kourou lies the Centre Spatial Guyanais launch base of the ESA, the European space agency. On 1 January 2002, the euro was also introduced as the currency in French Guiana.
