About this destination

Laos, or officially the Lao People's Democratic Republic (short form: ລາວ, Lao), is a landlocked country at the heart of the Indochinese peninsula of mainland Southeast Asia, bordering Myanmar (Burma) and China to the northwest, Vietnam to the east, Cambodia to the southwest and Thailand to the west and southwest. An inhabitant of Laos is called a Laotian. The historical and cultural identity of present-day Laos goes back to the kingdom of Lan Xang Hom Khao (Kingdom of a Million Elephants Under the White Parasol), which existed for more than four centuries as one of the largest kingdoms in Southeast Asia.
