About this destination
Lebanon (Arabic: لبنان; Aramaic: לבנאנ; French: Liban), officially the Republic of Lebanon (الجمهورية اللبنانية; République libanaise), is a small and densely populated country located on the far eastern coast of the Mediterranean Sea in Asia. To the south it borders Israel, and to the east and north Syria. The country belongs to the Arab League. The name Lebanon comes from the Semitic root lbn, meaning "white" in Aramaic, probably a reference to the snow-capped Lebanon Mountains. Julius Caesar called Lebanon Lub Na'a, meaning "White Land". The name appeared at its earliest in texts from the Library of Ebla dating from the third millennium BC.
