Paraguay, officially the Republic of Paraguay (Spanish: República del Paraguay; Guaraní: Tetã Paraguái), is a country in central South America. It borders Bolivia to the north, Brazil to the east, and Argentina to the south and west. The country is named after the Paraguay River, the name of which is explained in various ways. In most cases, a combination is suggested of terms from the indigenous Guaraní language that link "river" and "sea", thus "the river that flows to the sea". The pronunciation is Paragwaj.
