Singapore, officially the Republic of Singapore (Malay: Republik Singapura; simplified Chinese: 新加坡共和国; traditional Chinese: 新加坡共和國; pinyin: Xīnjiāpō Gònghéguó; Tamil: சிங்கப்பூர் குடியரசு Ciṅkappūr Kudiyarasu), is a city and island state in Southeast Asia. The country covers a group of 63 islands in total, which is separated from Indonesia by the Strait of Singapore and from Malaysia by the Strait of Johor. The latter strait in particular is very narrow. The Strait of Singapore is a subsea of the Karimata Strait and thus, in turn, of the South China Sea.
